Meet Bien-Aime Baraza, the soulful and driving force
behind the chart-topping African band, Sauti Sol. Born on
December 28, 1987, in Nairobi, Kenya, Bien
'
s musical
journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.
In 2005, he joined forces with childhood friends Polycarp
Otieno, Willis Chimano, and Savara Mudigi to form Sauti
Sol. Together, they embarked on a mission to redefine
East African music, fusing various genres to create a
unique sound that transcends borders.
Bien is best known for his raspy vocals, his beautiful
songwriting, his infectious personality, and his bald head!
His first solo EP was entitled ‘Bald Men Love Better’
. This
project birthed the East African summer hit of 2022 ‘Mbwe
Mbwe’
, one of the highest streamed East African songs of
2022 with YouTube views exceeding 12 million views.
Bien is on a solo music career, after 20 years with the
band. In November 2023, Bien released his debut solo
album named after himself,
‘Alusa Why Are You
Topless?’
, and within a few hours of its release, the album
swiftly went viral, charting #1 in Kenya and Top 10 across
East Africa, becoming one of the most streamed records
in the Afro-beat genre by the end of 2023. Noticeable in
the album was the collaboration with renowned artists
such as Ms Banks, Tay Iwar, and Ayra Starr.
The deluxe edition featuring ‘Wahala’ boasts five new
tracks, including collaborations with African superstars
like Adekunle Gold, ShineTTW, Wretch 32, Fally Ipupa and
Rayvanny.
As a GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter, Bien continues
to be a trailblazer, leaving an indelible mark on the global
music scene.
